How to use UPS maintenance and maintenance

Time:2018-07-04        Read

First, pay attention to the following issues in the use and protection of UPS :

(1) The switch used in the distribution box connected to the UPS should not use the old-fashioned knife gate switch. A widely used air switch should be used. This switch has the function of making the load respond quickly when short-circuited, and has leakage protection and overheating Protection and other functions.

(2) The capacity of the air switch should be selected appropriately. When the switching capacity is too large, it will cause overcurrent or the load will be short-circuited. If it is too small, it will often cause the mains to be interrupted.

(3) The mains line where the UPS is located should not have an inductive load, otherwise it will have a great impact on the power grid and the UPS, and the inductive load should be connected to other mains lines.

(4) When the UPS of the key load fails, it should not be shut down blindly, and the bypass should be used to continuously supply power, and then the UPS maintenance engineer is notified to resolve the failure.

(5) When the UPS matches the power, there should be a margin, and it should not be overloaded, and the load can be matched according to 70% -80% of the UPS power.

(6) There must be a sequence of switching the UPS. When the UPS is turned on, the UPS power input switch should be turned on first, and then the inverter switch;

Maintenance of UPS power battery pack

In medium and small UPS power supplies , a sealed lead-acid battery is commonly used. Reasonable maintenance of the battery pack is the key to extending the service life of the UPS battery pack. To do this, you should:

(1) It is strictly forbidden to over-charge the battery pack of the UPS uninterruptible power supply. Over-current charging may easily cause the positive and negative plates inside the battery to bend, resulting in a decrease in the available capacity of the battery and damage to the battery.

(2) It is strictly forbidden to charge the battery pack of the UPS uninterruptible power supply . Overvoltage charging will cause the water contained in the electrolyte of the battery to be electrolyzed into hydrogen and oxygen to escape, thereby shortening the service life of the battery.

(3) It is strictly forbidden to over-discharge the battery pack of UPS uninterruptible power supply . Excessive discharge easily sulphates the surface of the battery's internal plates, leading to the increase of the internal resistance of the battery, and even causing the "reverse" phenomenon of individual batteries. Permanent battery damage.

The UPS power supply system is mainly composed of a host and a battery. These two parts are not only expensive, but also pay special attention to the environmental conditions of use. If the user cannot reasonably use and maintain the UPS uninterruptible power supply, not only can the UPS uninterruptible power supply effectively play its due role, but in severe cases, it may shorten its service life. The principles for purchasing UPS are as follows:

(1) Maintain protection for computers storing important information

Each computer may have an accidental power failure due to unstable power supply voltage or other reasons. For most computers, this accidental power failure may be normal, but if it is for computers that store important information, it may cause incalculable losses to users, such as critical data, Customer information, etc. Therefore, from the perspective of protecting practical value, users should only protect the power supply of those few important computers in order to make UPS guarantee value for money and achieve classified protection.

(2) Select the appropriate UPS uninterruptible power supply according to the importance of the protection object

If the UPS is purchased to protect the computer that stores important information, then it must be ensured that the UPS can provide a protection voltage within the normal range of the rated value, so that when the mains power suddenly fails, the UPS can complete the process of switching to the backup power supply instantly, so that the computer It can still operate normally within a short power-off time, without data loss or system shutdown. In the case where the mains power supply is interrupted for an excessively long time, the UPS can start the power management software to safely shut down the computer system to ensure data integrity. In this way, the UPS not only protects the hardware of the computer, but also protects the data in the hardware. If the optional UPS is to protect the network server, then the optional UPS should have the function of preventing surge voltage in addition to the anti-surge voltage function to ensure that the UPS can be fully loaded when the mains power supply is cut off. Operate for at least 5 minutes, to prevent the network switching equipment from being interfered by the city power. Moreover, the UPS that is adapted to the server preferably also has an intelligent automatic battery management function.

(3) The UPS cannot be operated at rated power for a long time

It seems to the average person that to make full use of the function of UPS, the UPS should always be operated under rated power conditions. This is correct, but if the UPS is fully loaded for a long time, it may greatly shorten its service life. The principle of using UPS should be to use UPS for important equipment as much as possible,

Rather than connecting equipment that is not necessary for power protection to the UPS, if this can only increase the operating burden of the UPS and shorten its service life. The correct approach is to reasonably control the load rate of the UPS and ensure that the load of the UPS does not exceed 85% of its rated power. Of course, there is no need to let the UPS run at low load.

(4) The back-up UPS is not suitable for equipment sensitive to power

The backup UPS is usually in the floating state of the battery. When the power is off, the inverter automatically switches the inverter power supply to the working state, converting the DC power provided by the battery to a stable AC power output. However, this UPS has a problem of switching time difference, which is not suitable. Used in the protection of power sensitive equipment. Although this type of UPS has a short switching time, power-sensitive equipment, such as some instruments with very high control accuracy, not only requires the power supply voltage to continue, but also must be stable.Once the power supply has slight fluctuations, its working state Will be abnormal.

(5) Make sure that the power distribution cabinet of the UPS uses an air switch

In order to ensure the safety of the UPS, you must also pay attention to the switches used in the UPS power distribution cabinet, because if the power distribution cabinet connected to the UPS uses an ordinary old-style switch, such a switch will have an arcing phenomenon when it is turned on or off. This phenomenon will produce a sudden sharp current, which will cause additional disturbance to the mains power supply. If a new type air switch is used in the power distribution cabinet, the arc extinguishing function of the air switch can be used to avoid arcing, thereby ensuring the stability of the mains power supply. In addition, due to the use of fusible fuses, the old-style switch is relatively slow in current response, so that once a short circuit or other emergency is encountered, the power supply cannot be cut off in time.

(6) The UPS protecting the server should have an intelligent management function

The server is in the network, and all important information in the network is stored in it. Once the server fails, the entire network may be paralyzed. In order to be able to respond to any abnormality of the server in time, this requires the UPS connected to the server to have a smart

Can manage functions, such as automatic management and adjustment of the server's power supply, or when the power supply encounters a sudden failure, the UPS can automatically shut down the server's operating system and turn off its power. In addition, the intelligent function of UPS also includes the transmission of server-related information to the operator via the network

Act as a system or network administrator so that server administrators can perform remote control and management in real time.

(7) Let the battery work in a suitable environment

For the lead-acid battery in the power cabinet, what kind of maintenance work can the user do? In fact, the most important maintenance work for the battery is to let the battery work in suitable environmental conditions. Because the battery has high requirements on the temperature of the working environment, the temperature is suitable to allow the battery to exert its best potential, and it will also prolong the service life of the battery. To this end, as far as possible to keep the battery working environment temperature around 25 ℃, if the temperature is too high will shorten the battery life; the temperature is too low, the UPS can not reach the nominal delay. In addition, when assembling the battery, be careful not to mix batteries with different capacities and different factory brands, which will greatly reduce the actual use of the UPS.

(8) The output power of the selected UPS should match the power of the protected object

The UPSs of different capacities vary greatly in price. If the output power of the selected UPS is lower than the load power, then the UPS cannot provide power protection for these devices normally; on the contrary, if the output power of the selected UPS is significantly higher than the load equipment Power, the capacity of the UPS can only reach the power of the equipment that needs to be protected. In this way, the part of the high power is wasted money. Therefore, when users choose UPS uninterruptible power supply, it is best to first calculate the power of the equipment to be protected, and then choose a UPS whose output power is at least as large as the load requirement. Of course, if the equipment that the user needs to protect may increase power in the future, some margin can be properly considered on the basis of the existing one.

(9) Do not connect inductive loads to the UPS

The moment when the inductive load is turned on or off, the unstable current will occur. The peak value of this current will be much greater than the current value that the UPS can withstand. This oscillating current can easily cause the UPS to be overloaded instantly. , If there are too many overloads, it will be greatly shortened

The service life of the UPS, it is recommended not to connect some unimportant inductive loads, for example, do not connect household appliances such as refrigerators or air conditioners to the UPS.

(10) Learn to detect UPS when purchasing

In order to check whether the selected UPS meets the actual requirements, after purchasing the UPS, it is necessary to confirm whether the selected UPS is in line with the actual requirements through on-site inspection tests. The main inspection contents during the test include UPS startup inspection, abnormal alarm and automatic shutdown inspection, battery power supply / charging time inspection, utility power / battery switching point inspection, etc. The simple way to detect whether the UPS provides power-off protection to the computer is to unplug the UPS's power plug suddenly. If the computer can continue to operate normally, the UPS is considered to be competent for protection. In addition, users should also pay attention to the UPS output capability and reliability, because the UPS output capability performance indicators are quantifiable reliability indicators. Under the same operating conditions, a UPS with high efficiency, large output current peak coefficient, and strong overload capacity must have high reliability.

(11) Correct maintenance of UPS

If a problem occurs during the operation of the UPS, the user can measure the working voltage of each component with a multimeter according to the failure phenomenon, and compare it with the standard value, which can gradually reduce the scope of the failure. After locating the problem to a component, check the peripheral circuits related to the component in turn. If the peripheral circuit is OK, generally, it is caused by the damage of the component. Replace the component to eliminate the fault. However, it is recommended that users do not repair the UPS by themselves if they are not familiar with the UPS, because there may be a danger of electric shock during the repair process.
