Knowledge points of UPS power supply in weak current system room

Time:2018-07-12        Read

Foreword:

The UPS system is usually used in the computer room of the intelligent system . So what exactly does the UPS system mean and how to choose it?

text:

First, the meaning of UPS uninterruptible power supply

Meaning: UPS is an uninterruptible power supply. It is a system device that connects the battery to the host and converts DC power to mains power through module circuits such as the host inverter. It is mainly used to provide a single computer, computer network system or other power electronic equipment with stable and uninterrupted power supply.

Second, UPS power supply introduction and purchase:

1. Classification of UPS

In general, UPS power systems are divided into three categories: backup (or offline), online interactive, and double conversion (online). Different manufacturers will provide UPS with different configurations. Customers can choose the required UPS power according to their goals, applications, and functional requirements, and their desire to differentiate their products.

2.How to choose UPS uninterruptible power supply

1. First of all, determine how much power is required for your data center equipment. Generally speaking, the power of ordinary PC or industrial computer is about 200W, Apple machine is about 300W, server is between 300W and 600W, and other equipment The power value can refer to the manual of the device. Just buy as required.

The switch is about 15W, and the monitor splicing screen ranges from 180-260W. Please refer to the product manual for all power.

2. Secondly, you should understand that there are two ways to express the rated power of UPS: apparent power (unit VA) and actual output power (unit W). This difference is caused by the existence of reactive power. The conversion relationship between the two is : Apparent power * Power factor = Actual output power. So you have to calculate it when you buy.

3. UPS is usually divided into two types: power frequency machine and high frequency machine. Power frequency machine consists of SCR rectifier, IGBT inverter, bypass and power frequency boost isolation transformer. Because its rectifier and transformer work at 50Hz power frequency, as the name suggests, it is called power frequency UPS.

3.How to choose your UPS configuration?

Requirements, you need your own business needs when choosing UPS, but also understand your own financial budget, set the input capital and operating costs of the UPS system. You also need to understand the availability of UPS, so the UPS system you choose should not be those that can only tolerate a few hours of downtime. Your choice of UPS configuration should be consistent with your availability needs, and your budget should be set based on the potential cost of data center downtime.

Cool the infrastructure and add a cooling load to your facility based on the UPS system of choice. For large data centers, even a one or two percentage point reduction in UPS efficiency can translate into a lot of heat, and excess heat must be removed to protect the equipment. Can your existing infrastructure handle this load, or does your UPS need to be upgraded?

Space, UPS systems take up valuable data center floor space, so make sure the configuration you choose does not require adding more space in your facility. The current computer room can be said to be one inch of land and one inch of gold, so the size of the UPS is especially important.

Redundancy, you have a temporary backup power system (UPS), so why not back up your backups? If availability is a key consideration of the design, then redundancy is necessary. Adding a backup UPS can avoid single points of failure, thereby improving the reliability of the power system. A typical backup configuration is N + 1 (for example, if you need six UPS to run your data center, then the N + 1 design involves seven devices), others include 2N (double the number of devices required) 2N +1 and so on. More redundancy can increase reliability or availability, but it also requires more equipment costs (higher capital expenditures), more floor space (depending on configuration), and lower efficiency.

Design complexity, simple designs are often less prone to human error and independent failures, but they may also lack some of the features you would prefer to see in a UPS system. For example, a switch in an online interactive UPS system is a potential point of failure. In a double-conversion design, this point of failure does not exist. In addition, complex designs may require more maintenance (or simply, higher repair costs) than simple designs.

Modularity. If you expect your IT needs to grow, then you should consider a modular approach. "Purchase ahead." Buying more equipment than you need now will cost you more capital expenditures, storage space, and potential operating costs. The modular approach allows you to add infrastructure when you need it, avoiding the need for previous facilities to become waste when demand grows.
