How to properly configure UPS uninterruptible power supply

If the battery capacity is too small, it can not only meet the UPS backup time, but also because the battery discharge rate is too large, which seriously affects the battery performance and service life, and at the same time brings great hidden dangers to the stable operation of the system. This article summarizes the UPS selection Type configuration and battery calculation method for your reference. 

First, UPS type configuration 

According to the use of equipment and power supply requirements, in accordance with the principles of both economic and purpose, choose the appropriate UPS equipment. Generally, backup power UPS is suitable for low-power equipment with low power requirements. When the power requirements are high and the mains power index is normal, the online interactive type should be selected . When the power equipment has strict requirements on the power supply and no interruption time is allowed, To choose an online UPS. 

UPS capacity configuration 

1) UPS power configuration 

Generally, the power marked by the UPS power supply is the apparent power, the unit is "VA", and the power marked by the electrical equipment is the active power, the unit is "W". There is a reactive power between them, that is, the apparent power = Active power + reactive power, active power / apparent power = power factor. The backup and online interactive power factor is between 0.5 and 0.7, and the online power factor is about 0.8. 

Set the power of an electrical equipment to 300W, and select the power capacity of the online UPS. 

Then 300 ÷ 0.8 ÷ 0.6 = 625, it is more appropriate to choose a UPS of about 600VA through calculation. The number of 0.6 means that the load of the UPS should not exceed 60% of the rated load. Excessive or light load will shorten the service life of the battery, and then affect the service life of the entire UPS. 

2) Configuration of UPS battery capacity 

When the mains power is interrupted (power outage), the UPS uninterruptible power supply can provide uninterrupted power supply because of the storage capacity of the battery. The length of the power supply time is determined by the capacity of the battery. Power products are especially important.  

The battery capacity is expressed in ampere-hours (AH). For example, 24AH indicates that the discharge current can be continuously discharged for 1 hour when the discharge current is 24 amps; or when the discharge current is 1 amp, it can be continuously discharged for 24 hours. That is discharge current & times; discharge time = battery capacity. The battery capacity is usually expressed by voltage and ampere, such as 24V / 24AH, 12V / 24AH, 12V / 7AH, etc. A battery with the same voltage has a large capacity and a large number of hours. A battery with the same voltage has a large capacity with a high voltage.
